RallyX on Ice is a new, cost-effective, four-round Scandinavian winter championship debuting in 2018 off the back of the tremendous success of the RX2 International Series presented by Cooper Tires’ inaugural campaign. It will be the biggest ice-racing series in rallycross history.
Supercar Lites machinery – the same as used in the main RX2 championship – will form the basis of the headlining class, with support from leading rallycross driver development series’ the RX Academy on Ice and Speedcar Xtreme as part of a ladder of opportunity designed to discover and nurture the next generation of rallycross talent.
The compact calendar will take in four events in five weekends, beginning at Östersund in Sweden on 3 February, followed by Höljes – venue for the Swedish round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship – on 10 February and concluding with a brace of Norwegian outings at Ål on 25 February and Gol on 3 March, to coincide with a popular ice racing festival.
Not only will RX2 on Ice serve as an exciting curtain-raiser to the eagerly-anticipated 2018 motorsport season, but with much of the region blanketed in snow at the beginning of the year, it will also offer drivers invaluable seat time and a rare opportunity to gain competitive experience and mileage in extreme conditions – perfect preparation for the summer RX2 Series campaign.
